    Managing Director of MRB Property Valuation

    THYS BEUKES is registered as a professional valuer with the SACPVP. He has been in the profession full time since 1992. His core function is to perform valuations of fixed and moveable assets. He previously served as the Chairman of the Central Branch of the SA Institute of Valuers seated in Bloemfontein and now serves as an executive member of the Southern Branch. Thys has delivered many presentations and talks on commercial, specialized and farm valuations at seminars hosted by the SAIV and has an in depth knowledge of the valuation of these types of properties.
    Thys started his own valuation company, MRB Property Valuations in April 2014. This company is a service provider to various financial institutions, government departments, mining companies and municipalities for commercial, residential, specialized and agricultural valuations. This company also has various service level agreements with national valuation companies.

    In his current position, as Manager: Valuation Operations and Municipal Valuer at the City of Cape Town, Llewellyn’s role is to lead and manage a team responsible for General and Supplementary Valuations of approximately 910 000 registered properties, as well as a host of activities associated with this including data collection, objection and appeal resolution. Unlike most valuers, Llewellyn offers strong valuation modelling, statistical & data analysis and database management skills. His past experience in the private sector has exposed him not only to valuations, but also provided a solid foundation for his ability to conduct property economic research, to author property publications and to draft reports and business plans. His management experience in dealing with internal customers, as well as his valuation experience in dealing with external customers at various Valuation Appeal Boards, has enhanced his communication and negotiation skills.

    Danie holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Stellenbosch. His local government career spans more than 30 years and includes various leadership positions. Danie relished the privilege to be part of a range of major initiatives in the City of Cape Town’s history including: Financial and Administrative Head of the Unicity Commission which was responsible for the transition of the seven local councils in the Cape Metropolitan Area into the Unicity of Cape Town between 1998 and 2000. He was the Financial Manager of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, including the construction of the Cape Town Stadium, test events, FIFA events, cash flow management and auditing. He was also the Financial Manager of the 2014 World Design Capital Project which included governance matters of the World Design Capital Board, management of funding streams and financial reporting. Danie also played a pivotal role in the management of the public inspection and objection processes of approximately 900 000 properties for three General Valuation cycles since 2015, including logistics, automation initiatives, dispute administration, customer care as well as support to the independent Valuation Appeal Board.

    François Viruly is a property economist with over twenty-five years’ experience in the analysis of the South African property market. Associate Professor Viruly lectures in Urban Economics, Property Development and Portfolio Management at the University of Cape Town in the School of Construction Economics and Management. François held the position of Chief Economist at the Chamber of Mines.
    He was Head of Research at JHI Professional Services and Acting Head of School of the School of Construction Economics and Management at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. He is the President of the International Real Estate Society and is immediate past President and Executive Director of the African Real Estate Society. He heads the UCT-Urban Real Estate Research Unit. He had served as president and executive director of the African Real Estate Society and is presently the president of the International Real Estate Society.
    He is the Director of Viruly Consulting Pty Ltd and a fellow of RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors). Prof Viruly has undertaken extensive research into the South African property cycle, the drivers of the South African property market and the relationship between urban economics and property markets in Sub-Saharan Africa. More recently his focus has shifted to sustainability in the real estate sector with a special emphasis on the “S” of ESG.

    I am a senior counsel (SC) with over 25 years’ experience as an Advocate at the Cape Bar, having commenced practice as such in 1995 and, as indicated above, have served as an Acting Judge in the Western Cape Division of the High Court of South Africa.

    I have successfully completed courses in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution with the Arbitration Forum and at the University of the Western Cape and currently serve as a member of the Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa (AFSA) panel.
    I have in this regard experience as counsel representing parties to the dispute and as Arbitrator, Adjudicator and Mediator.
    I have a special interest in commercial and construction matters and have extensive experience in those and various other fields of High Court litigation, Arbitration, Mediation and Adjudication

    Quintin has a wealth of real estate experience in both the listed and private property sector specialising in all aspects of management relating to commercial, retail, industrial, residential and hotel assets.

    Quintin started his career in real estate with the Cape Town based Baker Street Properties where after joining Redefine Properties Limited. During his time at Redefine, Quintin was in charge of executing the national leasing strategy for the group across 450 nation-wide assets. A hands-on approach to real estate has always been a key hallmark of Quintin’s operating mantra, which has proven over the years to be a recipe of success for Spear.

    Quintin co-founded Spear with Mike Flax & Abu Varachhia in 2011 as a private equity real estate investment business focusing on owning Western Cape assets with a Cape Town bias.
    Spear started out life with a R 334 million real
    estate portfolio. Asset growth had grown to R 1,4 billion and in November 2016 Quintin lead the team in listing Spear on the JSE as the only regionally focused REIT on the exchange and held the position of Managing Director until 17 May 2018. Quintin succeeded Mike Flax as Group Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for the overall leadership of the business, setting the trajectory of the business, engaging the capital markets, executing the overall group strategy of Spear, and
    ensuring that the business is placed in the best possible position to take advantage of growth opportunities within the Western Cape real estate market. Quintin leads the business, capital raising team, investor relations and corporate engagements. Quintin’s Executive Team is made up of experienced real estate professionals being CFO Christiaan Barnard, COO Cliff Toerien & CIO Kim Pfaff-Karg.
    Spear REIT Limited is the only regionally focused REIT on the JSE and exclusively focusses on owning
    high quality assets within the Western Cape. Spear obtains its specialisation through regional investment and its diversification through varying asset type investing. Spear listed on the JSE in November 2016 with assets under ownership of R1,4 billion. Currently Spear has assets under ownership of R4,3 billion. The current GLA of the Spear portfolio is 436 436m2 and consists of 454 tenants spread across commercial, industrial, retail and hospitality assets. Spear is a fully internally
