Thys Beukes Director of MRB Property Valuations
Thys Beukes Director of MRB Property Valuations Thys Beukes is registered as a professional valuer with the SACPVP. He has been in the profession full time since 1992. His core function is to perform valuations of fixed and moveable assets. He previously served as the Chairman of the Central Branch of the SA Institute of Valuers seated in Bloemfontein and now serves as an executive member of the Southern Branch. Thys has delivered many presentations and talks on commercial, specialized and farm valuations at seminars hosted by the SAIV and has an in depth knowledge of the valuation of these types of properties. Thys started his own valuation company, MRB Property Valuations in April 2014. This company is a service provider to various financial institutions, government departments, mining companies and municipalities for commercial, residential, specialized and agricultural valuations. This company also has various service level agreements with national valuation companies.

Malusi Mthuli President at South African Institute of Valuers Malusi began his 18-year career in property valuations at the eThekwini Municipality in Durban and went on to work in the private sector. This is where he broadened his experience whilst working for JHI, Nedbank Corporate Property Finance and Investec Specialist Bank leading up to FirstRand Group. His previous notable roles include Head of Property Risk: Johannesburg, Head of Property Risk: Eastern & Southern Cape both at Investec; Head of Valuations: Rand Merchant Bank and currently Head of Valuations: FNB Commercial property Finance, both subsidiaries of the FirstRand Group. Prior to being elected President in 2021, he served as the Deputy President of the South African Institute of Valuers and Deputy Chair of the No for three years and more recently as a Chairman of the Northern Branch. Malusi has completed the National Diploma in Real Estate, B.Com. Honours in Property Valuation and Management, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Administration. He is due to graduate in 2021 with an Masters in Business Administration, for which his research treatise is titled “The Future of the Property Valuation Profession in South Africa towards 2040”. Malusi’s passion for PropTech has led him to be a significant voice in the development of an online valuation workflow system which provided qualitative and quantitative input into the Basel models, and delivering a Commercial Property Index. Malusi is married with three kids, two girls and a boy. He enjoys playing golf and travelling during his spare time.

Busisiwe Mrawu PhD student at University of KwaZulu-Natal Busisiwe graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987 at the University of Fort Hare, having majored in Geography & Psychology. She later received her Masters Degree in Geography at the University of Port Elizabeth (NMU) in 1995. Between 2001-2003 she embarked on a new academic journey to acquire a Postgraduate Diploma in Property Studies from the University of Cape Town and went further to get a National Diploma in Real Estate majoring in Property Valuations (2004-2007) from UNISA. Busisiwe passed the SACPVP board exam in 2010 and has been a Professional Associated Valuer since then. She was the Acting Chief Director: Immovable Asset Management at Eastern Cape Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, Bhisho from 1 August 2020- February 2021. She has also been a Member of the National Department of Public Works Committee for Professionalization of Real Estate Management Professions since 2021. She is currently the Director: Acquisitions and Disposals at Eastern Cape Department of Public Works and Infrastructure. Busisiwe is currently studying toward a PhD (in Community Development) - Faculty of Built Environment and Development Studies) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal her topic is The Challenges Related to Revenue Management in Local Government: A Study of Property Tax Administration in Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality in the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.

Ian Forster Chief Valuer at Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Ian Forster is a well-respected public servant, leader, and professional valuer. Ian started his career with City of Joburg in 1994 as a candidate valuer and served in several leadership roles within the City of Joburg and NMBM Valuation departments over the past 28 years. He was appointed as the Municipal Valuer of the NMBM in October 2019. Ian has led the development of key innovations, managed critical projects, and implemented important operational improvements for the local government valuation sector.

Laurie Pool Valuer at Suid-Kaap Waardeerders Laurie Pool is registered at the South African Council for the Property Valuers Profession as Professional Associate Valuer. He completed his studies for the National Diploma in Property Valuations at UNISA. He has 8 years’ experience in the execution of Municipal Valuations. Some of the entities that Laurie has done valuations for include: Eden District Municipality, Kai, Garib, Hessequa and Frances Baard to name a few. He has been employed at Suid-Kaap Waardeeders since 2005 and boast a wealth of experience in various types of valuations including farms, residential, business/industrial, bank valuations, Restitution, Township development, Expropriations, Servitudes, Wind & Solar Farms.
